Coming from Lester, I’m puzzled by this ‘toon. Is he actually supporting gay marriage and equating the latest legal developments in the US with Rosa Parks’s civil liberties protest in the ’50s?
“Lester is disrespecting and insulting Ms. Rosa Parks, and The Civil Rights Movement.”Correta Scott King would disagree with you. She was an advocate of equal rights for gays and lesbians, and she equated it to the 1960s civil rights movement.
“Amazing that anyone could ever equate the homosexual assault on morality with the struggle by American-Africans for equal protection under the law (back when that was something “civil rights leaders” actually cared about). American-African moral leaders (real leaders, not the shysters like Al “Tawana Brawley” Sharpton and Jesse “Love Child” Jackson) routinely condemn homosexuality—as they should. Yet now these light-in-the-loafers types are trying to coat-tail their way to some hellish vision of the promised land.”you’re amazed because you’re ignorant and a bigot.
Actually this issue only effects about 1% of the population (homosexuals) and even of those, only about a quarter will actually get married.I’m glad this stupid sideshow has been put to rest along with the Dems race card after getting a black guy into the White House.I’m sure Dems are scrambling to find their next group of “Victims”.Oh ya, they’ve got the Illegals!
Yeah, like you, I see gay rights in the USA as a continuation of the civil rights movement. of the USA in the ‘50s. You’ve expressed it better and more broadly and I agree.
And like you, I would not expect that view from Lester.
Can’t help but look at today’s paranoid right-wing and think back to the days, and hatred, of Joe McCarthy and the HUAC. While Ike did some good things, as did Nixon in fact, he should have given Joe a good swift kick, anatomical placement optional.
The civil rights movement WAS and remains about equal rights for ALL people. Now that it appears WASPS will soon be a minority, the paranoia will get even more “amusing”.
“Blacks who fought for civil rights should be very offended by the gays forcing themselves on the civil rights bus.”As I’ve already stated, Coretta Scott King would disagree with your assessment. She was an advocate of full equality for gays, including marriage. She saw the parallels to the 1960s civil rights movement and she spoke out in favor of it.“That’s right. Gays are losers. They need big government to make it possible for them to live together because without government, they can still live in the same house.”Current events suggest that it is you, sir, who is the loser. And quite a sore one at that. Gays want equal treatment under the law. Nothing more and nothing less. Gays may not be forced to the back of the bus, but they’ve had their fair share of beatings, bombings, lynchings, and cold blooded murder at the hands “Christians” who need to feel superior to their fellow human beings.
disappointedly said “That is why it’s a slap in the face to Ms. Rosa Parks and all Citizens White and Of Color who marched side by side for Civil Rights and the end to segregation.”
Dammit Tigger! I was going out to bat for you! And you spoiled it all! Jase had read you correctly.
No, she would be deeply offended by this toonHer public speeches comparing the modern gay rights movement to the 1960s civil rights movement suggest you are wrong.
“The issue is not civil rights. Civil unions could take care of that.”About as well as separate schools and toilet facilities worked for the blacks. “Separate but equal” is not equal. Government sanctioned marriage includes a very long list of civil protections and benefits. To deny those rights to some consenting adults based on someone else’s religious beliefs makes it a civil rights issue.
“There is nothing wrong with the traditional cultural definition of marriage. So changing it merely destroys it for everyone.”Except for it excludes a segment of consenting adults based on someone else’s beliefs. How would it destroy your marriage? Is the bond between you and your wife so tenuous, so pathetic that you’re worried she’s going to leave you for another woman? Unless you need this exclusion to make yourself feel superior to another human, how does it affect your life?Live your life and believe your beliefs to your heart’s content, so long as you do no harm to others. Stop trying to tell others they don’t have the same rights as you just because they don’t live as you do.
" It destroys marriage as a societal institution."And you have yet to explain just how that happens. You’ve stated that gay marriage won’t change your marriage. If you don’t need to exclude consenting gay adults from marriage to feel superior to them, how will gay marriage destroy the institution of marriage?
Well, at first I thought he was doing the right thing and applauding the advancement of gay civil rights. However, upon reflection of his previous toons and the unmistakable scornful look on Ms. Parks face, he’s apparently saying the child-like girly homosexuals don’t belong at the front of the bus with stoic Ms. Parks. Therefore, Mr. Lester can go f&*( himself, ’cause those bois SHOULD be sitting right up front with her loud and proud for sure.

Or is he saying it diminishes her struggle?
