My lover like using paper plates when possible but I think it’s a waste and I can wash and stack for air drying the regular dishes faster at either house. At least he always wants to use the best china dishes for all special meals (not the everyday Corian/pressed pyrex at mine).
When we bought our house it had a dishwasher. Mom would never use hers so I didn’t want to, especially since it would not wash the newsprint off the dishes when we moved in. Over the years I got used to it, but only prewashed the dishes if we had tacos (the sauce stuck too much). Replaced it 20 years ago with one with a delayed start, thought it stupid, decided it was one of the best features as it washed overnight. For the past 5 years it has been on it’s way out and finally died.
I had not replaced it as I did not find a new one I liked, so now we are looking. Husband really wants me to replace it, I am not sure. The biggest reason to replace it is that if I am sick (or we both are) I won’t be able to wash the dishes (and he doesn’t want to get stuck washing them).
Apparently the new required standards have made the dw’s really bad, even top of the lines. They take 2 hours (instead of the 15 minutes it takes by hand), they don’t get the food off and the dishes come out wet because they don’t heat them to dry any more, but reuse the heat of the dishes to dry them. (I only used heated dry when one of us was sick.) My biggest problem in washing them is that I need more room to leave them to dry, so I am going to give the dw a good washing and use it as a drying rack until I find one I like.
Husband does not clear after meals, wash, dry or load the dw. First time he left the dishes on the table after a snack I told him that I was not his mother (she did all housework and picked up after them) and he had to put his dishes in the sink, although I did not expect him to wash them. Has worked for almost 34 years.

Here it is just my wife and I so we have no need of a dishwasher. I wash, she dries, once a day and it never takes longer than ten minutes.
We recently bought a new house that came with a dishwasher, we tried it but said no thanks and we’ll continue doing it by hand.

I agree. Dishwasher soap only works if the dishes are soiled. That is what it is designed for.

I moved into a newer house with a dishwasher, we only used it a couple of times. The kids and I wash by hand.
