All through the lower grades, my daughter’s schools produced directories every year, and the vast majority of parents were happy to participate because this facilitated making social arrangements. When the kids got into high school and got their own cell phones, that all came to a crashing halt; the kids didn’t want their friends’ parents to know their cell numbers. Reverse sadism….

Why is the daughter drying the dishes instead of washing them? When I was a teenager, I washed and my parents dried, while all the time having a livy conversation. Those were the best times with my parents, both Mom and Dad.

Interesting how much Emmy Lou resembled The Yellow Kid in this one.

I hope that since dad didn’t do the dishes, that he cooked the meal.

Wow! I love Willow’s experience. My dad reserved the right to avoid all conversation that wasn’t absolutely necessary, both with Mom and with us girls. He lived in the realm of higher math, and while he would mow the lawn and wash the cars, he definitely did not do dishes! And the one meal he would cook occasionally was pancakes for breakfast; and suddenly, he was capable of coming down to earth sufficiently to make the pancakes in cute shapes, our initials, etc.
