Ma could walk five miles uphill both ways in blazing heat and blinding snow simultaneously and Burl wouldn’t give a fig! And she could throw in wild indians to boot. Maybe up there she’ll either fall off or electrocute herself. Burl might bother himself to go to the funeral, but he wouldn’t wear a tie.

    Joy IS going to help!

Right here on her To Do list….it says “Call 911 tomorrow.”See? She’s standing by for when Ma falls off the ladder.

Probably she’s already programmed it into a button so she can dial it with one push.

The phone company begs people not to do that, but Joy can’t bear to waste an extra second.

After all, Ma already had to drag herself to the phone to call her for help.

    What a concerned daughter.

My ma is 84. She hires a handyman (aka my spouse) to do that kind of work. Burl is either a lazy good-for-nothing, a coward, or he’s clueless about home maintenance(some men are). Maybe ma expects too much out of him. lol

Maybe when she gets done, Ma can run over and paint Burl and Joy’s gutters. They would be proud as punch to tell the neighbors how self sufficient she is.

After I hit 60 I saw the wisdom of my Father’s words: “Never go any higher than a barstool unless it’s absolutely necessary”. .Roofing issues are now contracted out. As my wife says: “The entire job is barely more than the medical deductible and I won’t have to play nursemaid”.

I used to walk all over the roof to get any extra leaves and debris off and scoop all the mush of leaves out of gutters and into trash bags so there was no mess below. Sometime after I was 60 my boys decided they did not want me to climb up there (I never asked) and they started doing for me. We seldom have rain here (and no gutters).

Weather is so much better here. The boys still ask if there is something they can help with when they visit. My daughter may comment that SHE could do – or -; but that would take time away from the reason she came to visit – SUNBATHING!

Has it been established that Burl has his own private toilet?

Yes, I was about to answer Guapo about Joy’s “shrine” to Burl. I had not realized back there that the “essence” included the fact that he’s too lazy to flush after himself – EEEW! It is one thing to love the smell of your S.O.‘s perspiration but THAT is just gross! Everyone’s S*** stinks ( even if they think not )

Thanks, 2old2 & DAZZ. I’m a longtime Crustwoodian and am surprised I’ve missed previous references to Burl’s throne. Must be too much brain bleach.
