About as good as that so-called Wichita pickoff some high school team pulled the other week. With a runner on second, pitcher turned and mimicked a throw to the bag. Shortstop looked around the bag in panic; then turned and looked toward the outfield as if the ball had sailed out to center. Runner drifted off the bag, unsure of where the ball actually was, and apparently heedless of his base coach screaming. With the runner about 30 feet off base, the pitcher turned and ran toward him. As the runner tried to make it back to second, the pitcher threw the ball to the shortstop, who made the tag for the out.
