I dunno – it seems pretty obvious to me. The fielder throws the ball at the batter and tries to bean him, and the batter either runs from the fielder to avoid the throw, or runs toward him to attack him with the bat. Couldn’t be simpler.
My 5/30 comic is different. It’s about a bunting injury. Maybe a bit exaggerated in stance but closer to the right way to “SQUARE AROUND”today’s bunters only slightly shuffle feet losing bat control. Old school is correct

Of course, we know what kind of “ball” we’re playing.
Here’s an interesting fact: Before “PLAY BALL!”, the umpire’s command to start the game was, “You may fire when ready, Gridley!”
