NOT happy with this. After all, we got pictures just from the many people around with phones — so on what grounds do we need cameras everywhere like in London?
So the ’Private business security camera" caught the image of the bomber … and you decry / “Thank Obama for the Police State” …any inconsistency there ? Hmmmmm !
I’m thankful the technology made it possible to capture a bomber who had more bombs to use on Americans in just 5 days. But it does bring to mind Orwell’s “1984” and the trend to Big Brother dictatorship. All in the name of safety and security. -I am happy that the authorities and residents coped successfully and defeated the goal of terrorists= public panic.-@motivemagus….happenstance cellphone cameras could not provide dependable and reliable videos such as in the department store where the pressure cookers were bought by the planned bombs. Video monitors enabled the police to Identify the men placing the bombs, one behind the 8-year old boy that was one of the murdered by Islamic JIhadists.
Radish: to date the Boeing system is still getting an “F” grade, which means the “conservative” factions in congress will keep funding it, at “cost plus”.
Several “similar” systems CAN work, and be far more effective than the idiot fence (although it works in urban areas, a tiny bit). Also, it isn’t so much the “workers” coming across with coyotes that are nearly the problem drug trafficking is. Maybe it’s time we cracked down on dealers harder and more effectively in the U.S, rather than the users? Decriminalization of marijuana, and harsher sentences for selling ALL forms of cocaine equally, and harsher penalties for opiates and methamphetamines would be a good stsrt. (also illegal sales of “prescription” meds, and ending the advertising on TV of those patented drugs as likely to kill you as your “disease”, might help doctors in telling their patients they DON’T NEED ThEM!
While visiting a country in Asia, I can’t remember now, visited so many while in the Navy, a local commented that we have too much freedom in the US. This was in the 80’s and it wasn’t until 9/11 I understand what he was talking about. Well, we USED to have too much freedom.
What police state? The videos for the most part are from security cameras is shops and smartphones. Like it or not, you can be recorded by something little larger than a pack of cards in the hands of a private citizen.

If we can do that on a street, why not the border?

It’s no deterrent to a brain-washed suicide bomber.
