And Lassie was played by a boy. (Better coloration on a male Collie than a female.) Made the scene where Lassie was nursing puppies a bit awkward.

I had a little dog once, that would jump through a hula hoop. It was the only thing she ever learned to do, but she did it very well!

They’ll nurse whether anything comes out or not. I remember when we brought home our first kitten a calico named Shanna. She would “nurse” on our boy poodle just sucking his fur. It was the cutest thing.

Hold out as long as you can, Biscuit. Once they know you can do something, they expect you to do it all the time.

Anyone see Letterman’s Stupid Pet Tricks last night? As usual, he motormouths enough to distract the whole deal, but the last pup showed he could do his stunt, paying no attention to Uncle Dave and his rattle-headed chatter. Not only once, but 3x and then ignored Dave when exiting !!

My solid black chow/lab mix sheds a new dog every day. We call the clumps her “puppies”.

Collies of both genders have a ruff, and both can be of any color, but the males tend to be larger, which makes them more impressive onscreen.
