This is a brilliant illustration of NRA insanity. Without national gun control, the kids chances of getting shot in school, the mall, the theater, the street even at home bu a family member are far greater.
It’s EASY to get guns in Georgia. It’s EASY to sell them without background checks and Georgia’s politicians are happy to kiss the NRA’s ring to keep it that way.
Why is it that so many people think that gun control will keep guns from the hands of criminals? Is it because drug laws are so effective? It’s not an apples-to-oranges comparison. With what will we defend ourselves if not firearms?
Beautiful! The comments are the best part! Benson shows us all through our comments how incredibly polarized America is. It is not about the facts, but the way the information is delivered and who is saying what that polarizes us.
So we should just abandon all laws? Because, y’know, criminals won’t stop murdering just because there’s a law against it. And why have lines to guide traffic? And stop lights?First of all, THESE LAWS WORK. How do we know? Well, because other countries have them, and they don’t have our handgun murder rates. If you want to write that off as “oh, that’s them,” then look at Australia. They introduced similar laws after a mass killing, and it reduced gun murder rates markedly.Second of all, MOST GUNS THAT KILL PEOPLE HERE ARE ACQUIRED LEGALLY. If you simply made it harder to buy guns, you would eliminate the huge percentage of gun deaths due to accident or emotion.Third of all, MORE GUNS = MORE DEATHS. PERIOD. The best defense for a gun is not a good offense with another gun, it’s to keep guns out of the hands of the nuts in the first place.Fourth of all, NO ONE WANTS TO TAKE AWAY YOUR GUNS. For Pete’s sake, all that has even been suggested is to reduce access NOW to a FEW types of guns that aren’t necessary for hunting or even to protect oneself. The hundred million guns that are already out there are still out there. And even if the strictest laws proposed were put on the books (which they won’t be, since Reid is a NRA suck-up), it would still allow you to buy hundreds of different weapons.Quit this nonsense and start THINKING, for God’s sake. How many more kids need to die for this irrational commitment to guns over people? If the NRA — and its toadies — just said the truth, which is that the right to own ANY gun is more important to them than the deaths that take place as a consequence, I would at least respect their honesty.
It’s a CARTOON. And it’s one person’s opinion of what Wayne and his cronies are really doing – holding America hostage. Well, two people’s opinions if you include that I agree with it.
Mr LaPierre is actually protecting the criminals and mentally disturbed’s right to purchase weapons at gun shows and from private sales.;I wrote some days ago that of seven people I knew of who committed suicide, all but one was by gun. Since then I keep remembering others, all of whom died by guns. Two of these were from hunting weapons, the rest were by guns bought to protect themselves. .I lost a favorite cousin to an accidental shooting and twice I have missed being shot by less than two feet. Each would have been termed “accidental”.
Jeez-a-loo, the only proposal in play is requiring you to get a background check before you buy your big splodomaster 10000 – that it. This is supported by a vast majority of NRA members. And yet, even that has no chance in this nutty climate. Keep your guns, buy big splosion machines, but at least give society a chance to catch some of the criminals and nut jobs who can currently get a gun without a background check. Yikes!!
You might ask, why do these gun control cartoons seem to run in cycles? They just follow the headlines, and in this case there have been several articles talking about the failing support for the federally sponsored legislation and the Wall Street Journal had an article this morning that compared the passage of “pro gun” legislation to gun control legislation on the state level. Maybe to many’s surprise, the pro gun legislation is still ahead. Way beyond the action of the NRA, gun owners have flooded their state legislators with phone calls, emails and letters. It should be no surprise that New York, Colorado and Connecticut took the headlines with their passage of legislation.
It’s pretty obvious at this point that money and politics prevail in the discussion and the partisan divide widens again. Maybe someday we will take a long look at our violent culture and come to terms with the problems that plague us and make an honest effort at resolving the problems, not just trying to legislate and regulate behavior as a panacea for our what is poisoning our culture.
Follow the money people the NRA could careless about the right to own guns, they get a percentage from the gun and ammo manufactures for every gun, clip and round sold thats all they care about loosing the MONEY from these people
The NRA benefits from a program where folks buying guns & ammo can voluntarily “round up” & donate the change of their purchase to the NRA. I think that would be weak support of hjenks’ claim. This is not:In May 2011, Ruger launched the challenge to sell one-million Ruger firearms over the course of one year, with one dollar of each sale going to benefit NRA Institute for Legislative Action. The Million Gun Challenge quickly became the 1.2 Million Gun Challenge when Ruger customers purchased even more firearms than was originally anticipated.Gun makers give huge sums to the NRA. Membership dues account for only one half of the NRA’s revenue.
It’s not the NRA membership that is the problem. They support universal background checks. Even Wayne LaPierre did until recently. The problem is the political climate that prevents even sane legislation that is supported by NRA members from being discussed.

You forgot the 75,000 or so people injured by firearms every year.BTW, did you know that Wayne Lapierre is paid about $1,000,000 a year?
