None of this should be surprising if you know even the bare minimum about Afghan culture and history.

It is a desperate attempt by Karzai – who was hand picked by Western powers at a conference in Bonn, Germany – to claim legitimacy in the eyes of the Afghan people by lumping the Americans and Taliban together. Of course, he would still be a refugee in Pakistan or working as a waiter in one his brother’s restaurants in the States if it wasn’t for the US.He has spent the last 11 years robbing the US tax payers and Afghan people blind, as he has stuffed his and his relatives pockets with US aid.

Because the Al Qaeda were headquartered there and a previous administration said they were not worried about binLaden nor the Taliban. His Mission had been accomplished.

Holy Crap, today I can agree with Benson (Steve that is). What is the world coming to? This one is actually a good current events cartoon.

The lesson to be learned from the Middle-East seems to be that it’s pointless to try to help people who dress funny.

It amazes me on a daily basis how the right wingers in these comment sections continue to make baseless comments devoid of any facts. Everyone calls them out for it and points out their stupidity and then they come back the next day and do the same. What exactly do you think you are accomplishing by doing this day after day after day? How does showing your ignorance and proving your stupidty help your political cause? (not sure why I am pointing this out since it was showed to us in the last election just what the general population thinks about the right and it’s rhetoric, my bad…keep it up guys!!!)

The reason Obama didn’t cut and run was because Bin Laden was still on the loose. Bush had more than 7 years to get him but his attention was diverted to Iraq.No US President has arbitrarily withdrawn troops from a conflict he has inherited without at least making sure there is some chance of success after the US leaves.

You say that you find it interesting that I attribute a noble reason to Obama yet I insult Bush. But, you insult and criticize Obama all the time; in an earlier post you called him incompetent. The fact you asked why Obama did not cut and run on his first day shows a glaring ignorance of RECENT history. Bin Laden was still at large, the war was not over in Iraq. Like I said before, no incoming President has arbitrarily ceased a conflict or US military involvement without first taking steps to insure probability of success after the withdrawal. Even in Vietnam, it took Nixon 4 years before the Paris peace accords were signed. He ran with promise of having a secret plan to “win with honor.”As for insulting Bush, I’ll let his own words do the talking. Six months after the attack, he seemed to have forgotten about Bin Laden and considered Afghanistan was a complete success, ignoring the fact that the Taliban had not surrendered but strategically retreated and their leader, Omar Muhammad, had neither been captured or killed. If Bush knew anything about Afghan history – and all he had to do was seen what had happened less than 15 years ago with the Soviets – he would have realized the Taliban were going to continue fighting. He gave the following answer to a question less than 6 months after 9/11:http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4PGmnz5Ow-oWe would see this pattern again less than a year later when he landed on the carrier and declared an end to “all major conflict in Iraq.” As it turned out, the major conflicts had not even started yet.

I find it interesting that you are willing to give Bush the benefit of the doubt not based on any evidence but on the mere hope that he was doing what was good for the country, yet the problems in Afghanistan – a problem that existed before Obama was even elected to the US Senate – is due to Obama’s incompetence.

I did not over analyze what you said. I responded directly to a criticism you leveled at me. You said:-Well the bottom line is you don’t have an inside line to know why Bush did what he did. You can say whatever you want, but you have no idea what was going on. Sometimes Presidents do things that are for the good of the country but to divulge the actual plan could give information to the enemy that would put people in danger. And interesting that you attribute a noble excuse for Obama and an insulting one to Bush.-You assumed that my views are based on a political bias, and I am either ignorant or I disregard the history or facts regarding the subject at hand. Like you, I have a political philosophy I favor. But, I also put great importance in being truthful and knowledgable about the subjects I discuss.

You accuse me of “jumping in,” as if I breached some protocol or displayed bad manners. Yet, the post of mine you initially replied to was not directed at you. Yes, I used the term “cut and run,” but my intention was to explain to any reader why a president could not expediently disengage from a conflict he inherited.
