The last few times I’ve seen this, I wondered why Abner just didn’t say he heard about the awful marital laws of lovely Skurvia. At least Aunty could have written up a pre-nup, and foiled the Baron and married him too (much to his horror).
Pre-nuptial agreements did not exist then. Women were the servants, if not the property, of their husbands.
