Capp was considered a liberal, but evolved into a conservative. Funny how being a conservative to some brings out the term knee-jerk, but being a doctrinaire lefty isn’t seen the same way.
When old friend John Maynard Keynes asked Capp why he deserted liberalism, he replied, because you kidnapped it. Translation——liberals became so extreme that they forced the conversion. Also happened to Ronald Reagan.
Funny the instant and extreme sensitivity concerning anything to do with color. Though in this case it is understandable, though one can’t become retroactively shocked.
Think though the reaction to the phrase, a Christian thing to do. Probably be none at all. Reminds me of a story about a tornado that went through Tennessee some years ago and destroyed a church. A Rabbi hearing of this offered the use of his synagogue to a distraught pastor who wondered where his flock could gather for services. When the Rabbi made the offer he mentioned as to how his building was little used on Sundays. The Minister was very grateful and thanked the Rabbi telling him that it was a very Christian thing to do. The Rabbi accepted the thanks, but said to his counterpart, It is also a very Jewish thing to do.
I first heard this phrase in “The Big Bang Theory”, said by the reborn Christian Texan mother of Sheldon as thanks to Leonard, when he offered to teach her the proper terms to use related to people from different races. It was funny because she said it without any sarcasm, just a expression she was accostumed to use.
Being from a different country, I didn’t know at the time if this was a phrase specifically created for her by the show writers, or a traditional expression used byb people like her. Now I know.
