    I didn’t really think this was funny. Maybe that’s because I lost my husband to Cancer 2 years ago.

    That’s the danger when dealing with death/dying themes… wounding those whose grief is still fresh. My sympathies and prayers to you, rekam. I, on the other hand, just buried my father two months ago—after a long and fulfilling life—and I found this cartoon quite witty. Of course, as a pastor I’ve dealt with a lot of different funeral homes over the years and I have a unique perspective. (No offense intended to all of you funeral directors out there.)

    @ RekamI’m sorry for your loss as well. Dark or gallows humor doesn’t always work when the subject hits too close to home or the timing is off (too soon) for the reader.Of course it wouldn’t seem funny at a time like this.I feel that this kind of humor does serve to vaccinate us somewhat from the terrible truth of death and loss and mortality. We laugh, so we don’t cry. And sometimes we do both.
