Let’s make it easier on Papa John’s and all other businesses by getting them out of the health insurance game. The winners are employer’s and employee’s. Universal Healthcare, you generate income you pay into the fund.
Or….Papa John’s CAN keep it’s workforce employeed just the same before Obamacares enforcement, then sit back and watch Papa John go BROKE because Obamacare ate up all of his (GASP!) profits, and force him to close all the restaurants and go bankrupt. It’s either everyone can keep working, albeit fewer hours, OR everyone can LOSE their jobs because they won’t be able to keep their business running beCAUSE of Obamacare. Can’t have it both ways, Libs…
Lots of fiction here! First of all, if Obama had gotten what he wanted, this wouldn’t have happened. But NO, the only choice he had to improve healthcare at all was to use a REPUBLICAN plan promoted by…Romney! (Just to remind you, Obama’s FIRST choice was single-payer, which would have saved vast amounts of money; his second choice was a nonprofit government-sponsored insurance company to cover everyone not covered today. But the GOP — or the Insurance lobby — is apparently afraid of competition even while claiming government is less efficient.)Second of all, Papa John’s CEO is talking through his hat. He is talking about raising his pizza prices a trivial amount — but experts have estimated that the increases are far MORE than he needs to pay for healthcare. So it looks as if he is willing to shaft the consumer a bit more to raise his profits and blame Obama for it.Third of all, the WALL STREET JOURNAL supports universal healthcare, folks. Why? Because healthcare costs are expensive! But, as noted, Obama was not able to get the best or second-best choice. The ACA introduces some important changes to how healthcare as administered in this country, e.g., the “previous conditions” scam being eliminated, but no one should think we are done. If we want to have efficient and less expensive healthcare, we need to change the system considerably more than we have done thus far.Americans pay more and get less for their healthcare dollar than anyone else in the world: #1 in cost (50% higher than #2), but only around 27th on quality — and even the ACA won’t cover everyone!
The Tribe has Spoken…. tax the productive members of society (punish them)…. alas, the productive’s don’t like punishment (taxes, ala ACA) and will work within the rules, cutting employees below the 30 hour threshold. Business has Spoken. Actions have consequences….
Here you go..http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/PLAW-111publ148/html/PLAW-111publ148.htm..You’ve got time to prattle on about it, I’m sure you have time to read it so that you can make an INFORMED decision based on the fact.
Actually I understand income, profits (both pre and post tax) and profitability rather well. What I don’t understand is the resistance to removing the erratic burden of healthcare from businesses.
“Oh no, profits….How dare a company want to make a profit, don’t they know Obama is here to rule.”
Oh my gawd, how dare the employees want health insurance and gasp, choke, health care! They should just do the republican plan, don’t get sick and if you do, die quickly.
Something I find very interesting about all this is the ones complaining are companies that have the highest turnover of employees. The most employees on public subsistence, But yet all of these are showing huge profits.Years ago Colorado put in a state minimum wage law that forced these companies to pay a living wage; there reason was that the state should not have to subsidies mega corporations with welfare and food stamps for the employees. Did any of them leave the state or raise the prices no. If companies like Papa John’s are forced to provide decent benefits for their employees they are not going to shut down, and even if they did there would be lots of descent companies to take up the slack. Are they going to raise their prices no, to completive of a market? If you like you’re tax dollars going to subsidizing these types of companies that you’re projective. I for one don’t like it one bit.
How do you know how much the CEO’s make and that Obamacare costs will be insignificant to them?http://insiders.morningstar.com/trading/executive-compensation.action?t=PZZA®ion=USA&culture=en_US
It had been months since I looked up this stuff on Snopes. But I know better than to mention Snopes because it sends the right wing into a tailspin. But Snopes is more accurate than Politifact, in my opinion, and ask dot com doesn’t cover everything.

I don’t think that part of Obamacare started yet, but it will soon. Most of the law goes into effect in 2013 and some in 2014.

Don’t forget the taxes. What universal health care countries pay massive amounts more in taxes and fees. Not just income taxes, but fuel, sales etc.
It will probably be good for public transportation since much fewer people will be able to afford cars (to either buy or fuel them).
Hopefully I’m wrong.
