Sorry but there is a VERY funny song by Kevin Bloody Wilson called “Hey Santa, Where’s my f***ing bike?” Warning it’s a bit crude but if you have a sense of humor, you might go youtube it.

I agree, Evie, but you can’t do that to the kids…

this is probably the motto for every Christmas “This year we are not going to overspend and keep it simple” It takes a lot more thought to give one present to kids but that one would be memorable !!!

My thing is I do not buy stuff for my nieces and nephews on christmas or thier birthdays. Becasue one year I got something on sale that cost the same every other present (give or take a buck) and someone said how come you got that expensive present for them and not my kid. So now all I do is I pay for a trip to the zoo or circus or to a amusment park It is all equal and my money stays here not sent to china.

Grandma remembers when most “Christmas presents” were your everyday clothes and kids were lucky to get one non-practical gift ;-D

My family is refusing to buy things off my wishlist for Christmas. Because it’s all the same thing. And books are boring. Seriously?!!!! I would be perfectly happy if no one got me anything but books.

You all know, of course, that the frankincense and myrrh were for his burial.

Like the expressions on the kids faces as they react to the news.

I can’t believe how naïve Grandma is being. “Cut down on shopping”?? How much time you spend shopping is not totally under your control. You have to look around, and if the first store doesn’t have the item on sale, or doesn’t have the item at all, you may need to go to another store. You don’t always know what your choices are until you shop around, regardless of how much or how little money you’re spending. And just because you are buying fewer or cheaper gifts does not necessarily mean you will spend less time shopping – you may have to spend quite a bit of time because if it’s only one gift, it has to be perfect.

Completely twisting the story of the birth of our Lord and Savior, and the celebration of his birth! The Wise Men knew that Jesus is our King, so they brought gifts worthy of a king. That does NOT mean that everyone should be showered with expensive gifts! That is greed and selfishness. Besides, God gave us the greatest gift of all by sending His Son to die for all of our sins. You need to go read the Bible and read about the birth of the Son, becuaese you have completely missed the true meaning of Christmas. Heck, go watch A Charlie Brown Christmas and listen to Linus if you don’t want to read the Bible!

For my family, we each bring one gift per person. Then we play a game with dice and people can either open a new gift or steal something they already like. It’s a lot of fun and doesn’t cost that much.

Once my grandkids reached their teens, I bought them gift cards to appropriate stores and now that I have nothing but SSA to keep up the house and all I only gift the one youngest (from daughter’s second marriage-she’s now in her 3rd but 48 so I think no more). My middle son does very well and sends me generous checks or such as well as his frequent miles for my trips. ;-D

Here’s a thought, why not not just give money, like on Chinese New Year, ? Except on it’s on Christmas.-Works for anyone who wants to make things easy on themselves and avoid shopping on Christmas and people who don’t know what to get others for Christmas…-At least that’s what some of my relatives do… I mean, it works for me!
