The date on this one is October 27, 2008. Election day is the Tuesday after the first Monday in November (obviously that means it can’t be any later than November 8th and no earlier than November 2nd). October 27th was a Monday so November 4th was the next week (had the 27th been a Thursday or Friday then it would have been almost two weeks before election day).

Voting turnout isn’t fantastic in the U.S., but it’s not horrific – turnout in 2012 was below average yet over half of registered voters (57.5%) cast a ballot. Nonetheless, most people generally tend to refuse to do something far more powerful – vote with their wallet. Yes, they may skip a restaurant with bad service, but are indifferent to a company’s horrific business practices. If we had perfect information about the practices behind manufacturing products and actually acted on that information, then we wouldn’t need any government regulation over companies – the companies would have to police themselves in order to survive.
