Gracie: Papi, should people call me 'hispanic' or 'latina'? Dad: That's a complicated question. Dad: Some people don't like 'hispanic' because they say it's a label forced on us by the government. Other people say 'latino' technically refers to people who come from countries where Latin was once spoken, and that includes Italy, France and Hungary. Dad: Hmmmm... Dad: What if people just call you 'Gracie'?

The last country mentioned in the second panel should have been Romania. The Hungarian language is not descended from Latin. In fact, Magyar (the Hungarians’ name for their language) is not even a member of the Indo-European family!

How about American?

On a quiz show, I once heard this question: “There are five Romance languages; name three of them.” I could have named TEN that weren’t even on their list!
There are plenty of American languages - unfortunately, most of them are heading for extinction.

The Magyars did not come to present day Hungary until 896, long after the fall of Roman empire. It was about 800 years before that when the Romans had been there and called it Pannonia. So technically, yes, Latin was spoken in Hungary, but not by Hungarians.
