I was in 9th grade. Things were improving some after 7th and 8th grade which were horrible. I was getting over the worst of puberty.

Are these kids for real? They don’t want new school clothes?!?! Is this an episode of the “Twilight Zone?”

Having two sons, I can believe the son doesn’t want new clothes. But the daughter? That’s hard to believe.

I think kids like new things, they just don’t want to be bothered by the actual shopping.

I can see the boy not wanting new clothes, but the girl?! No way! I hated shopping with my mom, but when I got old enough and they handed me money to buy my own clothes…Woo hoo!

1974 was when i was in my junior year of high school and just getting my feet wet in the working world (summer job time). lots of good memories, not too many bad ones, and i was starting to look forward to adulthood and the freedom it would bring. if i’d have known then, what i know now. (i just flashed on Rodney Dangerfield’s closing speech in “Back to School” - brought a smile.

and, for the record, i still keep a couple of tee shirts from that era in my closet. despite the fact they couldn’t possibly fit, they still remind me of things i like to remember. (or maybe i’m just a packrat)

Never forget 1974 and the withdraw from Vietnam. Lost a lot of friends there. Glad my son just finished his army stint. Wish the wars would end.
