Clayton: Dad, how can I get good at Baseball without a lot of work? Adam: Hmm...Can you move objects with your mind? Clayton: Not yet. What if I build a robotic arm that throws really fast? Adam: That'd be cool. But it sounds like a lot of hard work. Clayton: Shoot! You're right. Hard work is ruining my success. Adam: Go figure.

Clayton is the childhood version of Dagwood Bumstead. Work avoidance is an art form. One must not expend as much energy avoiding work as doing it, otherwise you may as well do the work.
Besides hard work is supposed to increase your chances of success - not ruin your chances.

If he had a robotic arm he could reach the rainbow. Maybe.
