It must be nice in England if a dog can get into a food establishment without the whole country going into a panic like it would in the United States! The United States where FREEDOM was supposed to be! WAS!! LONG AGO!!!

I work in a store and all of a sudden it seems to be OK to take your dog in. People seem to think that it is OK to put dogs where groceries go. Carts with food.

My Mom used to tell about when she was a kid back in the 1920s in Saginaw, Michigan, that the Chrysler dealer had a big German Shepherd (and they were big in those days not the downsized ones that are today) and at the end of the business day the dealer would put the sales money into a saddle bag that he had fitted for his dog and the dog would take the money to the bank all by himself. Somebody at the bank would let the dog inside, remove the money from the saddle bag and put the receipt in the bag and the dog would take the receipt back to the Chrysler dealer.

Nowadays if the city saw a dog walking down the sidewalk all by himself they’d have half a dozen dog catchers after him!

One of the nicest things about being here in Germany is that we can take our dogs to the restaurant with us. Of course, the German expectation is that the dog will sit quietly under your table – that took some training!

Friends say that store workers are reluctant to challenge people when they bring dogs into stores, because they can say any little mutt is a “service dog”.

The other customers don’t want dogs bothering them. Keep doggie at home except service animals.

I don’t mind well behaved dogs in places. It’s unruly kids that really bother me. One of my favorite memories of being in England was being there in December and going into a pub for lunch. In the bar area was a big fireplace and in front of it were 4 dogs all curled up and sleeping while there masters were having a drink. Very iconic.
