To Americans, a “game” is what you call source of diversion where people can’t get killed easily (tennis); a “sport” is a source of diversion where people can die (tennis with Andre Agassi).

I would probably sleep through even the action parts (known to be true, sadly, from experience).

Daly has cleaned up his act. There was a guy in the 60’s that was infameous for throwing clubs and being a quite natty dresser…. wish I could think of his name.

This is the slippery slope that leads to no-rules cage fighting. The next step is tossing condemned criminals to the lions. (Hey, come to think of it, if you start with the child killers there might be political support for that! And tax revenue from ticket sales!! OMG, what am I saying?! What’s happening to me?!)

But back to the comic, it would have been so easy for Russell Myers to duplicate the first panel as the basis for the next three as many cartoonists do, but he obviously drew each one separately. I can’t decide if it is a labor of love for his art or if it’s just a waste.

But thank you for spelling my tag correctly. Most people who call a complete stranger unjustified names can’t do it.

I wonder why people watch NASCAR. Is it to watch drivers make left turns, or are they hoping for something more?

I always wanted to see full contact golf. As it is it’s only good as a sleep inducer.

Lewreader–simple explanation: NASCAR races are something like three hours long, you’re sitting in unshaded bleachers in the hot sun, and the racing is pretty boring most of the time (even when something interesting happens, like a crash or a pass, it’s on the far side of the track where you can’t see it). By the end of the race, you’ve consumed enough beer that watching a guy make a left turn is a Major Intellectual Challenge.

pschearer, I think Myers did a little bit of a cheat, but not much. The two panels look like the underlying pencil sketch was reused, but the finished panels were inked separately.

Try looking between panels 1 and 2, and crossing your eyes so the images overlap. They’re close enough to being identical that some manner of duplication seems likely. (It also creates a cool 3-D effect!)

Broomie might like the W.C. Fields short “The Dentist”; he plays golf and gets so ticked off, he throws his club, his golf bag, and his caddy into the water.

Fritzoid: Good catch on the duplication. I hadn’t noticed how similar the basic objects were because I was distracted by how well he changed the details. That’s why it never occurred to me to use the stereoscopic trick. (I learned that in the Army analyzing aerial photographs. It’s helpful too for what’s-different-in-these-two-picture puzzles.)

Susan001, I think you meant to say that watching golf is ALMOST as exciting as watching paint dry.
