Pretty good look at the real issue. BTW, it might be good to look at what Israel’s primary export is-weapons. For that matter who IS supplying all those AK-47s we’re giving the Afghans, and those helmets look very Russian in design.

Meh, we worry about how Egyptians stereotype those in the West and get a few facts wrong because we take the time to not do so when we view their countries, their cultures and their actions, right?

Thing: Not sure where you’re getting your figures, but USA accounts for 41% of total sales. Russia’s next with 17%, then France with 8%,the UK with 7%, Germany 4% and China with 3%. Oh looky, of the the top 6, 5 spenders are in the permanent UN Security Council. Imagine that.

64% of the sales are going to developing nations, almost 30% going to just 10 or so. Sell arms to a country in a hot region and you get an arms race. So much for promoting peace around the world, eh? Egypt receives over a billion in US military aid every year, as does Israel ( a couple or more billion). These 2 countries receive 1/3 of the US’s total foreign aid (not just military) largese. (btw, it funds an arms industry back home so there is also a large element of self-interest) Now does one get the Egyptian cartoon?

^ I picked up another source which quoted latest figures with USA with 58% while another claimed the UK was for the year 2008 (based on the sales of the Eurofighter) the world’s largest dealer, so perhaps the figures need clarification. ;-)
