Of course WE know him, but these days, nobody will put a man in charge of a group of girls. Unfortunate but true.

30 yrs ago, my daughter brought home a permission slip to play in the local city softball league just startiing up. I checked the little box that said I would be willing to ‘help’… yeah, right… I was given a roster and told, “here’s your team”!

    WHATT!

7-13 year old girls, abt 14 of them to a team and I was the ONLY male coach… I tried and tried to get a female asst coach at least, but no show… I coached alone for 4 yrs…

At the start of each season, I held a parents meeting and told them all that I had to touch the girls. They knew that you could tell a kid to stand with their feet and hips and shoulders like ‘This’ and in one ear and out the other. You had to place them in the right position and they all knew it. I told them that if they were unhappy with this, then they needed to put their girl on one of the other teams.

I NEVER had any parent move their girl…

Does the volunteer position come with its own straight jacket? He will need one by the end of the season. (Also he will need to go ahead and reserve that padded room, too.)

Bill Hinds already used that joke about checking the box that said “willing to help” and being given a team.
