Seems rare to see Clay do a sports ’Toon. Must be close to his heart

Collins’ decision to go public will change American sports, and relatively quickly, I think. A lot of guys will start ‘coming out’. And that will only make America stronger.

I have to applaud him for his courage, there will be a lot of negative push-back. I just have to wonder how it is that no one was ever outed – as blackmail, by an ex-lover, to destroy a career and so on. So leeches and scumbags beware: the athlete you “know” might soon stop to be your piggy-bank…

Why is a person sexual orientation such a big fricken’ deal to the left?

If you don’t run naked in the street I don’t care what consenting adults do in their own home.

But no, the LBGT community has to be “in your face” about every thing they do. So attracting that kind of attention is naturally going to get those that disagree with you to get back in your face about it.

    You reap what you sow.

Don’t you win most valuable player by how well you play the game and how many points you scored?

Is it me, I find this way to cynical. Here we have a career back-up player ‘come-out’ at arguably the tail end of his career. The book/movie rights will probably be more than he amassed while playing!
He is deemed ‘heroic’ in some circles. In today’s environment …no, fail.

It will be a big deal when it’s no longer a big deal!

As I recall it was the right who persecuted gays for decades.

bruce, allow me to kindly expose the fallacy of the ’in your face” argument.
straight people are extremely in your face about their sexuality. don’t think so? let me show you. they have pictures on their desk at work of the wife and kids. Discussions usually include (if not are dominated by) the wife and kids, and grandkids. It’s NORMAL. It’s open. It’s ‘in your face’.

Now a gay person has pictures on his desk of his Significant Other (and the golden Labrador retriever), and discussions include or are dominated by what s/he did with his/her significant other, and somehow that’s not normal and ‘IN YOUR FACE’.

perhaps you should re-think your double standard. that is unless your position is that gay people should go back in the closet where they belong.

Isn’t it obvious? All liberals are homosexuals.

    @dannysixpack

    Wait a second there skippy.

When was the last time there was a planned parade to celebrate straight sex week?

Now, of course, it’s ok if that’s what you want to do. Walk about the town dressed in your undies, kissing and hugging to “show” the world your are “proud” to be gay.

Ever been involved in one? NO? Well you missed out. Here’s a current list. have some fun my brother.

    http://www.chiff.com/articles/gay-pride-parade.htm

What you are talking about is not true. Pictures of your partner are common place everywhere I go. People always talk about there family and you are right, it’s normal.

Sexual orientation never comes up in everyday normal conversations in the workplace (LOL)
It’s against the rules now don’cha know. You can get sued for harassment and all…

Take a step back dude and re think your double standard.

^thank you for proving my point. FYI THE GAY PRIDE parade dominates my neighborhood that last sunday every june. I walk past the stonewall pub a few times a week.

whether or not I’ve participated or even approve of the gay pride parade is of no concern to this discussion.

and it is you that brought up the ‘in your face’ aspect. I pointed out how innocent and subtely the ‘in your face is’ and you did nothing to refute it. And, btw, I think it’s time the gay pride parade be moved to some other city and neighborhood that needs it. perhaps bagdad, the west village has done its part.

if you have a problem with ‘gay pride parades’ I suggest you move to limit their rights to free speech. apparently a very American and republican thing to do.

^willful ignorance not only do you not know theology, but you choose to isolate yourself from 50 year old history.. google ‘stonewall riots.

and since you won’t i’ll post a simple example for you.

there were laws that did not allow men to dance together as recently as the 60’s. the stonewall inn was the only place where homosexuals were allowed to even hold hands. The police used to extort money from the stonewall inn in order to look the other way when two men held hands or danced together. (BTW there are many cultures, judiasm being one of them where men dance together). it was also illegal for men to wear dresses – wonder why Milton burle was never arrested for it, oh yeah, he may have been a transvestite (like rudy guiliani but neither was homosexual – so no problem). the police that used to entrap gay men in the bar called themselves “Lily Law”, “Alice Blue Gown”, or “Betty Badge”.

so for the crime of dancing or holding hands in public, gay men were arrested, beaten and had their lives ruined. I’m sure you pine for those days of yore.

Additionally there is a term called “gay bashing”, you may have heard of it as i’m sure , as the holier than me christian you claim to be, you support it. perhaps you’ve heard of a name – matthew shepard, you can google that too – he was tied to a fence in Wyoming and left to die.

there are countless more examples – you can google ‘gay bashing staistics’, but I figured we’d start with the more famous ones and work down from there.
