I do like Mr. Asay’s art, and he has truly captured the circus that is Washington DC, the legislature, and our distracted ‘ringmaster’ president.
2014 is the next set of elections. Republicans hope to gain a majority in the Senate and increase their majority in the house while Dems hope to do the same.
Rs hope Dems and Independents will become disillusioned by all of the scandals and “broken promises” (promises the Rs work hard to help break) and Ds hope the obstructionist tactics and lack of compassion among the R policies will make voters more likely to come out as they did for the President. Both use fear, deceit, and half-truths/lies to further their agendas.
Our country is being divided and civility between parties and neighbors is decreasing. The first requirement for Democracy to work is for there to be a “Civil” society.
Are we witnessing Democracy in decline?
Have we become the new Rome, with our soldiers spread across the world while at home ‘bread and circuses’ distract citizens from what’s important?
We are, for the most part, good people with similar goals. To grow old and die knowing the world is a better place than it was when we were born, and those we love and leave behind will have a good life and a promising future.
I do not believe this legislature is friendly to such a goal.
    Respectfully,
    C.

Our country is being divided and civility between parties "
Saul Alinsky would be very proud of Obama. That is all a Community Organizer knows how to do. Hype and blame the other guy. Bring that gun to the knife fight. Chicago all the way! the one reason Mitt did not win was he was to nice when it comes to fighting slanderous tactics of the Obama. And you are surprised that Obama, the smartest man when in the presents of the media who loves him, can only divide and conquer. Saul showed him how to win, not lead. And when half your platform was eat the rich and here is free stuff, what did you expect.

    @Ms. Ima

“Dems want to divide the country then pick up the splinters. the only thing the dems have in common is they hate Republicans.”

It wasn’t a Democrat who said “You’re either with us, or you’re with the terrorists.” It wasn’t a liberal commentator who declared criticizing the President to be an act of treason.

So the only reason Romney didn’t win was because he was too nice, hm? It had nothing to do with him callously dismissing half the citizens of the country he wanted to run as worthless leeches, or calling Syria “Iran’s gateway to the sea”, or wanting to increase the military budget to 4% of the GDP (what CEO makes that much of an investment without wanting to put it to good use?).
Seems to me that under a Romney presidency, with all of G.W. Bush’s people he wanted to bring back in, the four lives lost in Benghazi would be a drop in the bucket compared to the botched Iranian invasion we’d be up to our nostrils in right now.

@The Wolf In Your Midst Syria “Iran’s gateway to the sea”,

If you had any knowledge of the politics then you would have known he is right. He was looking at the chessboard, Obama still has not mastered checkers of middle east politics and it is showing in a big way now. That place is a powder keg.
    ..
“wanting to increase the military budget to 4% of the GDP
Instead we have the sequestration that is cutting everything and our civilian workers that work for the military are now going on farlows and the cities and states with military bases are suffering yet more revenue loss.

the four lives lost in Benghazi would be a drop in the bucket compared to the botched Iranian invasion we’d be up to our nostrils in right now."

Now that is just conjecture on your part. But what of Obama’s mess he has made in the face of “man made bad things that happen over there” Or his wars. Do you, like most loony libs, give him a pass? Why because he won a peace prize?

    Cut and pasted from somewhere

This is no gaffe. This is not a case of Romney being ignorant of geography, it’s a case of the so-called “fact checkers” being ignorant of the trade routes now being used as a result of sanctions.

Romney was speaking in the context of the debate topic on foreign policy and the sanctions restricting the finances and trade of Iran. Although Iran is indeed located on the seacoast of the Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf, the international trade sanctions have restricted and impeded its ability to transport armaments and other goods through its own seaports. To defeat these trade sanctions, Iran has resorted to using its air transportation to transport goods through an air corridor in Iraqi airspace into Syria and its seaports, such as Latakia.

It wasn’t a Democrat who said “You’re either with us, or you’re with the terrorists.”

You seem to imply the “us” means “Republican”.
The context of the statement was the president speaking to the world in the wake of the 9/11 attack. “Us” meant “United States of America”.
It was not a Rep/Dem partisan comment, but rather a “politics stops at the borders” kind of moment.

I think we’ve sufficiently established that Asay has no intelligence, no sense of shame, and nothing worth calling morality. He’s interesting primarily as an example of a kind of pathology.
