Chuck Asay sifts the events of the day through his biblical worldview and tries to persuade readers to see things his way...that rights are given by a higher authority than the governments of men, that mankind is not the ultimate arbiter of truth and that our Constitutional Republic is worth protecting. Chuck believes ideas, not politicians rule the world. He tries to protect ideas which he thinks are good and attacks ideas he thinks bring harm.

Let those that believe in higher taxes pay them. There’s nothing stopping anyone from donating to the IRS.

a too simple answer to a very complex problem.

How do you feel when your party is eager to see your safety net eliminated just to preserve the Bush tax cuts to the wealthy – those who are already paying income taxes at a rate less than yours, and in some cases paying no income taxes.

So Bill, give me two examples of a person making over 250K a year that pays no taxes. Perhaps you can come up with a corporation – such as GE – that has managed to use the current tax code to their advantage and reduced their tax liability to zero but the individuals?
Sure go ahead and eliminate those cuts that both Obama and the democrats say are important to the so called wealthy. Explain to me how that is going to reduce the 16+ trillion dollar debt. But yeah let’s let them expire. Really I agree.
But please tell me how are we as a nation going to address the problem of (1) deficit spending and (2) the accumulated debt from all the well intentioned but wasteful programs run by the government over the last say 75 years.
You have to admit there is a problem before you can find a solution.

@Howgozit:
Both leaders seem okay to do this. It is unacceptable regardless of who participates.
People on this thread often bring up the fact that Obama allowed the tax cuts on the wealthy to be extended. At the time, he said that it was done in the spirit of compromise. I know, he didn’t mention the word “terrorism” at the time, and he should properly be pilloried for that.
In any case, here’s how I see it. Whether he had a mandate (an overused term applied to ANY close race with a large difference in electoral votes) or not, he won the election. One of the things he did promise (in addition to all the other “free stuff” that he listed in every commercial and campaign speech) was to allow the tax cuts on the wealthy to expire. Those two facts should start the negotiations. No one is stupid enough to believe that the debt would be paid off if only the rates went up for them. On the other hand, they are the only group who profited from Wall Street’s crashing of the economy, and they should be interested in preserving their cash cow. And it will make it harder for them to become lords over the serfs in case we go into a depression.
If the Rs “cave” to the one demand that the election and almost all polls say the people want, that requires the dems to respond in kind. I believe that people these days are paying attention to who’s trying to help and who’s staying in the way. It behooves the negotiators to remember this.

So I suppose Ol’ Mittens is your leader (supposedly)?
Marriott snapped him right up!
Wonder what sort of gifts Romney can offer the public now? Extra mints on the pillows?

@Bruce4671
According to the chart by which Mitt got his 47% ,, 5.5% of those making over $200,000 a year pay no Federal income tax. 1% of those making over $1,000,000 pay no income tax.

Barack Obama is an entertaining poker player when he plays with other people’s money. And, he always plays with other people’s money.

Wow.. the first cartoon where Chuck wasn’t an idiot and actually articulated 2 sides. Granted its simplistic but he only has a few lines to work with. Did he get a ghost writer?

Obama proposes cutting $1.6 trillion over the next ten years. Cutting waste and fraud is a big part of it. Raising taxes a tad will also help. On accounting : the F-35 which other countries are backing out on , because it’s more junk, and getting over-priced, is projected to cost our taxpayers $1.3 TRILLION over the next ten years, for ONE failed “weapon system”. Yes, there are safe places to cut the budget.
