For DECADES folks who actually had native ancestry denied it because of prejudice, then it became fashionable, and part of family “histories”, which is where Warren got her understanding from.
“Cherokee” btw were heavily mixed with white invaders by the 19th century, so the “blood line” was very mixed. Which, my maternal grandfather WAS Cherokee, and raised on the reservation; his best friend and cow punching partner was a guy named Will Rogers. My mom denied he was Cherokee, or at least wouldn’t mention it, until she was 94 years old!!
As to Wells Fargo, dumped them over three decades ago when their practices got “hinky” at best!
