Sounds genuinely yummy. I must remember to do it often.

Why do people think cilantro is edible? It has all the appeal of soap shavings.

There seems to be a genetic factor involved in how people react to the taste of cilantro. To me, it has a refreshing flavor, somewhere between fresh parsley and spearmint. I’ve heard others say that it tastes like dish soap. Read the article at http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/14/dining/14curious.html

Thank you for the link – I had often wondered why most of my friends adore cilantro but I detest it. They have been eating Mexican food since youth, and are accustomed to it, while I came to it late in life, and honestly blech!

I never felt anything similar to a dish soap in cilantro. To me cilantro tastes as a rotten moshus.
Whenever a recipe calls for a cilantro I use the same amount of lovage, or a celery leaf.
Cilantro ? No. Never again. Thank you. Never !

I didn’t grow up with cilantro, but I love it in salsas and pestos. I was raised in a German family, but I never enjoyed German cuisine, which is too meat-heavy for me. My favorite cuisines are Mexican, Italian, and Japanese (in that order), and though I’m not a vegetarian, I’ve eaten very little meat in the past 25 years.
