Hmmm. Seems to me that th biggest “threat to Christmas” is from fundamental Christians.

I’ve heard this before from them.

I want a head-on-a-pike, too! Nobody ever gives me a head-on-a-pike. Both ears and the tail, sometimes, but never a head-on-a-pike. [sniff]

Well, not “everyone” knows. If they did, they’d spend less time whining about a “war on Christmas” and more time working on “peace on earth” and “good will toward men,” two very low priorities on the fundamentalist scale of ethics.

Actually, the “early Christians co-opted Saturnaila” trope may not be true. Too long to discuss in detail here, but early Christians theology contended that Christ died on the same day of the year he was conceived. One calculation was that the Crucifixtion occurred on March 25 on our modern calendar and thus his birth was 9 months later- December 25th. (Another calculation had the Crucifixtion on April 6- nine months before January 6th- the Epiphany.) Check out http://www.ancient-future.net/christmasdate.html for a more detailed analysis.

Any theology coming after the fact is just bored men making wild guesses
Which is to say ALL theology is wild guesses
    No head for you
