And if not for Congress stopping him, Obama would be even MORE dangerous than he already is!

    Thank God for Washington gridlock!
Bipartisanship gives us stuff like the Patriot Act, DHS, TSA, and the bank bailout of 2008.

Obama is the best president since Clinton, and republicans have gone insane, lost in a little world of paranoia of their own making….Sad, really….

BTW, piano, the stock market just had the best quarter in 15 years….Everything else gets blamed on Obama, I’m blaming him for that too,,Let’s see, 15 years…1998…economy roaring as I recall….Oh, yeah, Clinton…Hmmm…Looks like Democratic types are pretty good for the economy…

    Amen.
But the only pres we’ve had since Clinton was Bush 2, so it’s a pretty low bar.
I might hazard the best pres since FDR.

Roosevelt was a pretty low bar himself.

For some people (many?), Politics has a way of blinding them to reality

Let’s see what the Republicans have given us since FDR brought us out of a Republican depression and won the biggest war in history:

Eisenhower—A bench warmer during the quiet aftermath of WW2

    Nixon—No comment necessary.

Ford—A party hack who is best remembered for being clumsy as an ox.

Reagan—Declared war on the working class, presided over an administration enmeshed in illegal arms sales to right-wing Latin American terrorosts, and thought the Reader’s Digest was the ultimate intellectual publication

Bush 1—A one term mediocre president who accomplished nothing, couldn’t even keep his lame “no new taxes” pledge, though admittedly looked good compared to the mess caused by his least talented son.

Bush 2—Got us into two unnecessary wars, turned a record surplus into a record deficit, gave huge tax breaks for the ultra-rich, gutted environmental protection, made the US the laughingstock of the world, etc. etc. etc……

@Newenglandah Let’s see the Democrats gave us

    Kennedy : Viet Nam War

Johnson: More involvement in the Viet Nam War

Clinton: NAFTA, the beginnings of companies moving their production overseas.

Honestly, neither side has anything they can really hang their hats on. It’s a shame the way both sides conduct themselves like spoiled, petulant, brats. Shame on them and shame on us.

FDR did not bring us out of a depression. He prolonged it. WW II was what ended it.

Actually, it was Eisenhower who first got us involved in Vietnam, but yes, Kennedy and Johnson could have handled it much better. I do have to credit Johnson with the Civil Rights Act and other civil rights legislation. Too bad his bungling of Vietnam sullied his legacy.

I am as opposed to Nafta and other so-called “free trade” legislation as anyone. No argument from me there.

You are correct that neither party is ideal; there is no leftist party in the US, there is merely a center-right party and a far-right party. However, if the Republicans were fully in controll we would likely still have some form of segregation in the South, birth control would be hard to come by, gay marriage would be illegal in all states, and we might well be in a war with Iran. I choose “less than ideal” over “completely unacceptable”.

And what was WW II if not a massive government spending program?

I see you subscribe to the Republican myth. It is not true FDR prolonged the Depression. The jobs he created kept people alive when without our nation probably would not have survived as a Republic. The Infrastructure he created is a big part of why America became the powerhouse Manufacturing Nation it became.
