There WAS a Lemont Brown who was fired by his boss on a regular basis. Though when you are with the Toledo Cougars, a Major League Human Cannonball team, being ‘fired’ is the main part of the job.

Huh. That league doesn’t have any teams in my area.

I did that when the Washington Post dropped Dan Froomkin several years ago. Haven’t been back since.

If you’ve ever worked for a fast-food joint, “slave owner” may seem appropriate.

jeffc42: WaPo has deteriorated to the point I would expect Sousa to return and demand his march back.

My daughter shanghaied me into playing in the community band she’s in (their motto is “Your best is good enough”). I’ve never been in a band – just chorus, and barely know what I’m doing as a percussion fill-in. Try getting “After You’ve Gone” out of your head!

Gokie5: And in Sophie Tucker’s voice too. As a coincidence, after posting the Sousa reference and before writing this, the Fannin County Community Band had a rehearsal and Washington Post was one of those we played. The trombone runs in the bridge are still worming my brain.
