That’s the problem with politics. One misses the wood for the trees, or in this case the tragedy for the jockeying for advantage.

I read that Trayvon was 6’2", not exactly the chubby-faced kid who looked about 12 in the released photos. This lends slightly more credence to the shooter’s story, not that it overcomes the question of who was the more threatening to who. And there is the whole question of shooting an unarmed person. I’m leaning toward thinking Zimmerman was not justified. Should be good for at least a sound civil case against him.

The mass media haven’t been helping. One network dishonestly edited the 911 tape to make it sound like Zimmerman was trailing Martin just because he was black. Another network had the choice of airing a grainy version of the police station video that showed no wounds on Zimmerman or the better copy that clearly showed cuts on his head. Eventually they showed both, but not before claiming there was video that showed no wounds. The media can’t be trusted in cases like this, especially since they have now invented the special category of “white Hispanic” just for Zimmerman. They have to keep this racial or else it isn’t a federal case.

There is too little evidence to prove conclusively before the law what happened. Zimmerman will probably go free, whether by the decision of a grand jury, the judgment of the D.A., or a trial in which there is reasonable doubt. Then the problem will be if the professional racial agitators will accept that or if there will be more neighborhoods looted, torched, and destroyed forever as has happened too often in the past.

And how many black people have been killed since? Where’s the outrage over that? This is just another issue for Jesse, Al and Louis to spit their bile over. I could go on but what’s the use? You’ve already decided what happened. Nothing that happens in court will matter any longer. The racists have already won. Black, white, it makes no diference.. Racism is racism, and I see an awful lot of black racism out there these days.

As a foreigner, it is easy to see that it is a deeply tragic event. However, the World is not seeing it so much as a racial issue but one that yet again involves the deeply ingrained belief that firearms need to be carried for “protection”.
Why do you wonderful guys (I’m genuine) feel so much less safe in your homes and towns than anyone else?

you’re right, of course. but this country’s obsession with guns will never , ever , ever ever change. the only thing that will change is the age that one can carry a gun (younger) the places you can carry your gun (the goal: EVERYwhere) and the number of rounds you can fire before reloading (NO limit)
we just gotta have our f…ing guns!

The real tragedy is that Mr. Zimmerman was tried and convicted in the media before anybody had all the details. Remember in the United States of America the LAW states that you are innocent UNTIL proven guilty.

Probably because we are more likely to kill each other for really stupid reasons. I do criminal defense law, and you would not believe some of the reasons people here think it is acceptable to hurt other human beings. The USA is a nation of violence, particularly the south. We find excuses for each isolated incident, drugs, race, poverty, bullying, but the truth is we are a trigger-happy nation, and we feel less safe because we are less safe.

Most of the complaints in the Declaration of Independence had to do with the British government’s habit of invading people’s houses for various reasons. The founding fathers profoundly mistrusted powerful central governments and wanted to give individual citizens the capacity for resistance.

The first gun control laws in the United States were passed in the post-Reconstruction South by white state legislators who wanted to make sure that blacks couldn’t offer any resistance when the guys in the white sheets (among whom were typically ‘law enforcement officers’ )went rampaging through their communities. Likewise, the first gun control laws in the United Kingdom were passed after World War I because the establishment was afraid of what all those working-class demobilized soldiers might do with their newly acquired knowledge of firearms.

Amen. There’s been way too much ‘tripping all over themselves’ on both sides of the issue. We never seem to be able to remember that ASSUME means ‘making an ASS out of U and ME’.

Is it more sad people pretending it was not racial, or people assuming it was?

This “SYG Law” is big can of worms, I’ve read that people
    are calling it legalized murder.
