    it has been tried on skates. It failed and nearly burnt up the test pilot.

    I saw old film of a similar attempt done with a bicycle on the NASA Channel…
    Same result.

    Probably the afterburners of the thrusters didn’t had any deflectors to deflect and keep the flames from burning the pilot.

    I recall seeing a bicycle powered by a buzz-bomb (“impulse”) engine on one of the cable science channels … seemed to work OK.
