Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

The lesson is:
Happiness is uplifting!

Stop thinking happy thoughts and consider the gravity of the situation.
Where’s Hobbs when you need him?

baslimthebegger: Happiness is uplifting! That’s my favorite theory so far. I can’t think of anything better than that.

Hey Calvin, just relax and enjoy the view.
Puddleglum2 said, 5 months ago
If Calvin were going up in the Rapture , he wouldn’t need the balloon.

Must be a dream.

Is that balloon filled with nitrous oxide?
unemandarine said, 5 months ago
Just find a nice, soft place to land.

Whatever you do, don’t let go.
Macushlalondra said, 5 months ago
Well let’s see where we end up. With Calvin’s imagination it could be anywhere.
LX013 said, 5 months ago
I should know where?
Puddleglum2 said, 5 months ago
To Lewreader:
nitrous oxide?
This is no laughing matter.
Susie, get help! Calvin really needs it this time.
That’s what Calvin gets for “crying wolf” in the sandbox.
Has anybody ever said that Calvin was down-to-earth, anyway?
Puddleglum2 said, 5 months ago
Life is full of surprises, Calvin.
“Who can explain it?
Who can tell you why?
Fools give you reasons;
Wise men never try.”

Stay away from helium um baloons until you’ve put on a little more weight.
I don’t remember this either, but it is good.

i wish the true date, with year, were on these…for awhile I followed these in THE BOOK….but got sidetracked and am now out of the habit.
ninmas said, 5 months ago
hey gang, i might not be able to comment much because i start school today :( have fun without me…… by the way: calvin, this is why you need to eat your dinner. otherwise you won’t weigh much.
MaxStarmanJones said, 5 months ago
Maybe Bill W. was saluting an old comic from a past generation. I vaguely remember it when I was a kid – they had an “astronaut” named Foster who had a balloon like that and talked about what he saw.
I want to say it was called “Winthrop” but I’m not sure.

Could it be 7-4-96? Even maginified, it’s hard to make out the date. The copywrite year is in the second panel and the date appears to be in the 4th panel.
algurka said, 5 months ago
I agree that it must be a dream. One balloon wouldn’t be able to send Calvin aloft. So, while he’s dreaming, what he needs now is a giant pterodactyl to burst his balloon and get him grounded with both feet on the ground. No more of these pie in the skies fantasies!
Wildmustang1262 said, 5 months ago
Calvin uplifts with that single balloon and goes around the world.

I have been told there is no gravity… the earth sucks.
Perhaps it doesn’t suck anymore.

“…the gravity of the situation”
Too funny!
gocomicsmember said, 5 months ago
It “just goes to show” that Calvin, unlike Hobbes, is a lightweight. It’s the tiger that really makes the strip.

calvin , i hope you can hold on, the fall won’t be too bad, but the sudden stop at the end might hurt a lot
yyyguy said, 5 months ago
i thought it was a water balloon that hobbes was holding behind his back a few days ago. must have been mistaken
yyyguy said, 5 months ago
good thing this wasn’t “no strings attached” or calvin would be in more trouble than he all ready is. i hope the string doesn’t become unattached (detached?)
