Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes has been a worldwide favorite since its introduction in 1985. The strip follows the richly imaginative adventures of Calvin and his trusty tiger, Hobbes. Whether a poignant look at serious family issues or a round of time-travel (with the aid of a well-labeled cardboard box), Calvin and Hobbes will astound and delight you.

That’s what I really don’t like about camping in some places - nothing to do at all but swat bugs. I like to hike and climb mountains.

Hey…that’s it…Calvin is an ENFP and Hobbes is a projection of his archetypical Opposing Personality. No wonder that Hobbes is so much like an INFJ. :)
Before someone rails at me for being needlessly serious, I’ll say…nothing. :P ;)

Isn’t it un-American or something to do nothing? Oh, wait, the politicians do it all the time

My dog had the perfect life, spending her life visiting her friends, swimming, going for walks with whomever was passing, relaxing, letting us know when it was time to be fed, enjoying car rides. Ha, ha, it’s funny how I would often look at her and think, “You live the perfect life. ” This I would think as I set forth to do some dreaded chore.
I love Hobbe’s relaxed pose in panel 4.

And then they take a recess for vacation or campaigning.

I totally hear you, Cleokaya! I’ve always said that if there *is* such a thing as the “after-life”, I want to come back as my DOG!!!!! Talk about someone who’s got it made while her “servants” (that would be my husband and me!) do her bidding!!!!!!!!!!
Meanwhile … I feel Calvin’s pain. My family just returned from a 2-week, out-of-state visit with my in-laws who live almost literally “in the sticks”: no internet access, no cable t.v., and at least 20 miles away from the nearest Wal-Mart (and not even a SUPER Wal-Mart at that)! I took PLENTY of reading material and cross stitch projects with me to keep me busy and from dying of absolute BOREDOM while we were there! Don’t get me wrong. I love my in-laws. I just absolutely HATE where they live!!!!! And just like Calvin will feel when his “vacation” is over, it was so nice to finally come home again!

There is a joke the French often tell:
The French work to live while the Germans live to work.
If you can’t enjoy just BEing, then you just don’t know what you are missing. If you only know how to DO then all you have in the end is the memory of what you’ve DONE. If you also know how to BE, then you’ll also have what you’ve BECOME. Being is the basis of life. If you can’t or won’t just BE now and then, you won’t have the time to really see what you are DOING. Success in life is not what you do but what you BE-come. Hobbes is in the right direction.

@ Gretchen’s Mom: May I move in with your in-laws, please?
@ Gaukelinchen: Underneath the lower right corner of the strip there’s a little gray star. Click on it; it will turn gold.

Lew, we only WISH the politicians would do nothing. It’s when they DO things that they cause the most trouble. They do things and then years or even decades later, they have to go back and fix what they screwed when they did the things they did before.

Hobbes is familiar to me as most of my friends in college: unemployed, incomparably lazy, and having a superabundance of back hair.
The only thing that’s different between Hobbes and them is that tigers are inherently better at pulling things off with style.

RinaFarina: Both my parents were great. I’ve started writing down some of the stories I share here and with my own family. The more I talk about them the more I realize they were pretty cool characters. Hey I might even find someone that might want to publish it someday. Atleast it’ll be a great hand-me-down for my granddaughter.

I read in a lot of these comments that Calvin is a brat. I don’t think so at all. He’s just a wonderful creative kid. What’s not to love about Hobbes?
