@ Charlie, WW is right bro, it was Esso, but there is no doubt, it was the Pontiac GTO which brought true fame to Tigerdom.. WW, ya beat me to the Uniroyal Redlines too. We musta been born on the same day or something.

Drag chute? Isn’t that what transvestites wear? Are we sure of Hobbs’ gender?

As Calvin was not happy as a tiger, maybe he should get his transmogrifier out and turn himself into a cheetah.

As Hobbes is a product of Calvin’s imagination, and as Calvin is a girl hater, I can only conclude that Hobbes is the alpha male.

Hobbes is wearing his racing stripes.

The cheetahs just use smoke and mirrors anyway.

On the nail, JonD17 and WW; S.O. (from which the Brit/Canuck “Esso” derives) which transmogrified to Exxon was “tiger in tank”; I actually got a t-shirt (with a Tony-esque tiger on front) once in 1976/1977 when my dad filled up at an Exxon (in Joisey).

Hobbes, you sly cat…
musicnut1986 said, 6 months ago
For the soundtrack we should play a little Jan & Dean or Beach Boys.
Wildmustang1262 said, 6 months ago
Hobbes should become like PUMA.
EMandEM says: Hobbes, you sly cat…
Should say “you sly tiger!” :-)

I think I can recall about tiger running around some place till it hit or stop and become a picture for selling the oil bottles in the advertisement. Is that what you talking about?

Calvin hates school. At home, he watches television. When does he read about all these ?
bald 716 said, 6 months ago
hobbs would have to go back home to get his running shoes to prove his speed

Sorry Hobbes, that’s a cop out.
Leonardeuler said, 6 months ago
Musicnut 1986, if I have the choice I’d prefer the good ol’ Beach Boys !!

prasrinivari: Isn’t Tony the Tiger on Frosted Flakes? “Theyrrr
Grrreat!”
Hobbes is Grrreat!
prasrinivara said, 6 months ago
Yes Shikamoo MIB, Tony is the Frosted Flakes “They’re Grrreat” tiger; and the tiger on the Exxon t-shirt resembled Tony greatly (no voice or thought balloons on t-shirt though), far more than any other cartoon tiger.

Firestone made Redline tires, including those great wide ovals. Uniroyal made the Tiger Paw tires.

Wildmustang1262, yes, from an old commercial. Uniroyal made “Tiger paws” tires and Esso became Exxon, and their commercial for their gas was “Put a tiger in your tank”.

And Isaac Asimov once wrote a story about the “Sign of the Lorraine Cross” on Exxon stations.

JonD17 says:
“…it was the Pontiac GTO which brought true fame to Tigerdom”.
Anyone remember the magazine ads for the “Goat” that showed the tiger tail comming out of the trunk? The car had the Uniroyal tires w/the red stripes and the female model sported 60’s “big hair”. Action at the friday night drags did more to promote the goat then the ads ever did.

Grazer: Is Hobbes a cheetah, or just “lion”?
Coffee-Turtle: You have to think quickly if you can’t run fast!

Calvin’s expression says “Hmmm, That sounds logical…”
PappyFiddle said, 6 months ago
Calvin might have acquired the information about cheetahs on the back of a Chocolate Sugar Bombs cereal box.
