It’s strange that WD-40 has such a reputation as a lubricant, because it was developed as a water displacer, which is what the WD stands for. Penetrating oil is meant for a job like this. I don’t know of any comparative tests.

One brand of penetrating oil popular around here is called “Busty.” I googled “penetrating oil + busty” just to get background on the product, and all sorts of shocking things showed up. Reminds me of the time I googled to see what was available in digital organs …

Don’t put it on and come back 6 months later and expect it to work — it will be stuck even worse. ( Experience of a locksmith unsticking WD40’d locks.)

Graphite is better for stuck locks. I’ve even used a pencil on occasion.

I use a pencil to clean coroded Knife blades and lubricate knife hinges.
