It makes me sad that this whole storyline is about a family not even having the fundamentals of saving money and not being wasteful. This is basic stuff, people!

It isn’t what you earn, it’s what you spend that matters. Always spend less than you earn and you will never have money problems. Learn the difference between wants and needs.

I have always said that it is not what you save, it is what you don’t spend.

I used to buy all my books at the friendly local bookstore. It was such a pleasant experience compared to our local library where the librarians would show judgement and comment over what I checked out while frowning at me. And I used to find the clothing stores a calming environment of soothing music as I looked over the slightly perfumed clothes as I imagined ways to dress that would get people to like me more. Then there was my addiction to fast food with its sensation of MSG, combined with the fat and sugar that would cause a buzz. All of these things add up and they are easy to substitute for.

I’ve seen that for printed books, Amazon now offers to ‘rent’ them. I don’t know what it means, I prefer to but books and have them available whenever I need to use them as a reference, but is an interesting idea if you want to save (with many cons though)

    I love these budgeting strips.
I just started budgeting using YNAB software, & these strips help.

If the characters in this comic strip were not written with at least one of them knowing how to budget – the strip would have them living in a tin shack down by the tracks.
people budgets in different ways. It looks like Betty is going for something like recording/writing things down. Instead of doing the figuring in your head. Which can give you misleading data.
