At least in some countries they still appreciate the value of a good lunch: Here in Argentina people usually have an hour to go to a restaurant and eat a real lunch of salad, main dish, desert and coffee. However, they’re also at work 10 to 12 hours a day…
My breother-in-law recently returned from working on a island in Mexico. The lunch period was 2 hours. This was not because there was the habit of a siesta, but due to overcrowded and poor road conditions. The business and work population has grown much faster than the infrastructure.
When I worked a fast food kitchen years back, there was a young lad who worked across the hall at the grocery store in the mall. He came in at least three mornings a week at 8:00 am, for supper. He got a burger, fries and soft drink. The wonders of the graveyard shift! Not easy to make eggs and burgers plus the day’s requirement of bacon on one small grill.
It just feels like the other shoe is going to drop on this job and she’s going to wind up back at the old company—and whatever happened to Alex and her old gang?

Tech companies with cafeterias? The ones I worked for only had coffee bars and free soda. No one worked at night except the NOC guys.
