    “The Klu Klux Klan was Democrat. I.e. Rob’t Byrd etc.”

    Everybody who studied political history sees they moved over to the Republican party as the Democratic party eventually changed to embrace the Lincoln ideals. Of course, this all happened gradually through attrition mostly, few actually switched in their lifetime but some did. Fascinating how that happened. Now where did the REAL Republicans go? They either became Democrats, or continue to hold their noses while trying to maintain some sense of their dignity within the New Republican party. If only they (the REAL Republicans) had a voice to drown out the craziness of the far right and stop scaring or bamboozling voters with their belligerence and intolerance, and if the REAL Democrats had a voice that would actually follow through in action in accord with those ideals instead of caving to economic special interests at the expense of the People, this country might find a middle ground once again and make some progress again rather than get torn apart by extreme ideologues and inflammatory rhetoric. If you can’t live with the ‘other side’ being around, you’re part of the problem.

    Here in the great state of Texas, moves were made the very SAME day the ruling came down to restrict voting rights.

    The KKK aimed to suppress blacks and minorities, and they did it through violence and laws. The VRA was meant to curtail Jim Crow laws. Yes, it’s hyperbole in this toon to compare the gutting of the VRA to the KKK, but the result is still voter suppression.

    @Atma

    You really believe this “magical” morph line of BS?

    instead of the ole Jim Crow Democrat changing into a “new” Democrats that just tells the minorities that they are for them to get their vote and then enslaving them with low employment, high EBT dependency, poor schools, high crime, easy access to population-limiting abortions….

    Atma: That is certainly the way it was in Texas. Republicans all voted in the Democratic primary and selected their candidate by convention. That way the general election was between two Republicans. When John Tower actually was elected to the Senate (because of a growing trend for Democrats to vote for the Republican honest enough to admit it), the Republicans (John Connoly, etc.) came out of the closet and admitted who they really were. At that point, Democrats curled up in a corner and stopped trying.
