You have to hand it to Sargent, Texas liberals are the most liberal. Sargent drank Bloomberg Big Gulb of Kool Aid.

    Sounds pretty accurate to me…

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry vetoed legislation on Friday that would have banned texting while driving because he views it as “a government effort to micromanage the behavior of adults.”

State law already prohibits drivers under age 18 from texting or using a cellphone while driving.

“I believe there is a distinction between the overreach of (the texting ban bill) and the government’s legitimate role in establishing laws for teenage drivers who are more easily distracted and laws providing further protection to children in school zones,” Perry said in his veto message.

I bet he’s against compulsory seatbelt wearing in cars and helmets for motorcyclists as well. Along with drink driving restrictions.

Perry’s history on road safety is abominable. Motorcyclists are not required to wear helmets in Texas. The speed limit has been raised to to 85 on one road. He vetoed a bill with heavy bipartisan support regarding safety for bicyclists, because the daughter of his had hit a cyclist with her car. The list is endless.

Freedom is an awesome thing…. some people can’t handle it, and require wise and loving leaders to tell them what to do, what to think, and what to feel. Nanny state mentality doesn’t fly here. Protecting us from ourselves isn’t needed… we can decide if we choose to live dangerously or not.

Let’s see if that attitude survives some driver rear-ending your car while being distracted by texting.

You can choose whether to live dangerously or not, and that would be fine if you were the road by yourself. But since you are on the road with innocent people, I would prefer you keep you eyes and your mind on your driving.
