Tired of "politically correct?" Want an editorial cartoon that is quick to call out the bumblings of U.S. politics and cuts slack to no one? Pulitzer-Prize winner Ben Sargent is paying attention and making Washington have second thoughts about that little thing called the First Amendment.

Good cartoon. One fact we know from the actual data is that places with more guns have more gun deaths. Let’s keep guns out of schools.

Then explain Colinbine, Virgina Tech, and Newtown all gun free zones. Can you post this data? Also:

The UK typically has about 40 gun related deaths a year … 40! The US is closing in on 10,000 gun related deaths each year! A bit of that can be explained by the population disparity but NOT that much. It’s not the liberals that threaten your freedom [to live] … it’s the conservative gun nuts who allow weapons to be so easily acquired.

You better check your facts. I believe Columbine had armed security, and Va.Tech had armed Police on campus.
But, then again, since when have FACTS ever interfered with the N.R.A.?

The game where you kill police and firemen is in the NRA pipeline.

Why don’t we follow the example of rich Liberals: They send their kids to private schools where they have (gasp) armed guards and gated security. The big liberals do not own guns- they have bodyguards with (gasp) guns. And, they live in homes with private security(gasp) guns and sometimes gated communities. They understand that cops do not guard people, that is a personal responsibility.

Yes and when did they respond and how did they respond. The teachers did not have weapons and look how that turned out.

Ah, so NOW you want to change what you originally said, and you want the TEACHERS to be armed. Better get your stories straight!
“Then Explain Colinbine(sic), Virginia Tech, and Newtown all gun free zones”.
Wrong on two out of three…

There are more than 129,817 federally licensed firearms dealers in the United States, according to the latest Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives numbers (as of Aug. 1) . Of those, 51,438 are retail gun stores, 7,356 are pawn shops and 61,562 are collectors, with the balance of the licenses belonging mostly to manufacturers and importers of firearms and destructive devices.
For comparison, here are some numbers of other ubiquitous elements of American life:
•Gas Stations in the U.S. (2011): 143,839 (source TD LINX/Nielsen via National Associations of Convenience Stores, Association for Convenience for Convenience and Fuel Retailing)
•Grocery Stores in the U.S. (2011) 36,569 (source: Food Marketing Institute)
•McDonald’s restaurants in the U.S. (2011): 14,098 (Source: McDonald’s Corporation Annual Report 2011)
But unlike burgers, gas and groceries, firearms are not a perishable or consumable product. They don’t go away. A rifle used in the 2009 Holocaust Museum shooting was nearly 100 years old, but was still an effective murder weapon.

Violent crime rates have been falling in recent years, but the number of people killed by firearms in the United States remains high. According to the FBI Uniform Crime Report, between 2006 and 2010 47,856 people were murdered in the U.S. by firearms, more than twice as many as were killed by all other means combined

Two types of people have guns in Israel: Soldiers and those with licenses. Mentally unstable people don’t have guns—and thus, don’t shoot people. And it is not as easy to steal a gun as it is in the US. When you are drafted you go through mental tests to see if there are any red flags. If so, you will be discharged or placed in an area where you would never see a rifle.
Only those with the rank of Captain or Lieutenant Colonel for at least two years can qualify to own a gun after the army. And those who do have guns are taught to guard them carefully. For soldiers who take their weapons home, it must be on their persons at all times or under lock and key.
“Unlike in the United States, where the right to bear arms is guaranteed in the Constitution’s Second Amendment, Israel’s department of public security considers gun ownership a privilege, not a right. Gun owners in Israel are limited to owning one pistol, and must undergo extensive mental and physical tests before they can receive a weapon, and gun owners are limited to 50 rounds of ammunition per year.”

There isn’t anything keeping you liberals from leaving the USA and residing in Russia or China or some other 3rd world country where firearms are banned. Heck, we might even start taking up a collection to put all your butts on the next boat!

You first! We actually don’t want to ban all firearms, just stricter control. Don’t you want a thoughtful discussion?
