Tired of "politically correct?" Want an editorial cartoon that is quick to call out the bumblings of U.S. politics and cuts slack to no one? Pulitzer-Prize winner Ben Sargent is paying attention and making Washington have second thoughts about that little thing called the First Amendment.

Anybody here knows the British TV-series “Upstairs, Downstairs”? This toon reminds me of that childhood favorite of mine. Maybe someone should give Mitt Romney an honorary lordship, then everything would be absolutely clear…

This is not intended as a criticism, since I really like the effect,
but Sargent must spend a LOT of time cross-hatching…
Seriously, this is a gorgeous composition. Squint your eyes so all you see is how the panel is broken up between light and shadow. Very clean, but very dynamic.
Top marks for the art, Ben.

I’ll take your word on the photoshop, although I wouldn’t know how to tell. And composition-wise, it’s STILL impressive.

I just downloaded GIMP yesterday, so my familiarity is limited: I couldn’t tell either. Could you point out something?
MortyForTyrant said, 8 months ago
Well guys, i don’t know about GIMP and so on (I use it on a very amateurish level) but I remember “back in the olden days” one could buy cross-hatch tape (or similar) and just cut and paste it – literally! But this cartoon doesn’t look like he used that or even computer generated, it’s too organic in nature. Maybe Ben has insomnia and uses cross-hatching to calm down? Or he is counting Romney’s verbal blunders and turns them into a nice artwork…

And Dali was all about technique, and not about what he was saying with his art???

Meanwhile, in reality, the current president is putting people on welfare and other govt subsidies. Hmm, if you’re eating handouts from someone elses table, what are you?

No cut and paste. All done by hand.

Some artists are just really good. It’s a delight to see work of this quality.

People on welfare have to WORK for their (meager) benefits. Or, have you bought into that lie as well?
