It will be very interesting to see how the Hispanic vote goes in 2010.

Well you see there’s this secret plan that’s going to have that short term Alaskan Gov win over the “important” voters for the wingnutz come next election.

Is this on the Sotomayor hearings or is it about something else?

They want them for Votes, this is why Republicans are kisssing Hispanics behinds 10-1 over Democrats.

Their party only wants white, fundamental christian males.
When they vote for Sotomayor they have that superior hold your nose look.

Oh, the GOP wants all the votes they can get, they just don’t want to have to pretend that they care about those voters!
Republicans have been remarkably effective over the years at getting people to vote against their own interests. Just scare ‘em with the prospect of gay weddings or an invasion by Muslims, but once they’re in office they forget about everything except lining the pockets of the already rich.

fritz’, it’s quite amusing how they trot out the hot button issues of abortion and gay rights etc. every election to sucker in the conservative vote, promise they’ll fight against them, and then do nothing once they’re elected. And they do it over and over. And somehow the conservatives never get it.

I think it’s amazing to hear people talk about voters as groups, i.e. “the Hispanic vote” or “the black vote” and then declare that pandering to said racial or ethnic groups instead of inividuals is not bigoted. In fact, they love to use the term “racist” for those who refuse to engage in such stereotypical pandering. [eye roll]

I think it’s amazing to hear people deny that racism takes place simply because there are laws against it now. I think it’s amazing to hear people say that efforts to equalize the imbalances of hundreds of years of institutionalized oppression by the privileged classes against anybody they consider “other” are “reverse racism”.
When the elevation of an underqualified woman or minority raises as little fuss as the elevation of an underqualified white male, then we can start worrying about whether “reverse racism” is taking place. But that’s a moot point HERE because Sotomayor isn’t underqualified.
If, in 100 years, Blacks and Asians and Hispanics and Middle-Easterners are as well-represented in positions of authority (political AND business) as they are in the general population, if they are enrolled in the best schools in equal numbers, and inhabit the lower classes in NO MORE numbers, than their white counterparts, then we might have a truly “level playing field” and we can revisit whether preferrential treatment is justified.
It’s very seldom that extraordinary individuals are discriminated against, because they are extraordinary. It’s the ORDINARY individual, of whatever racial background, who feels the effects of employers who always find some PERFECTLY LEGAL way to hire the white guy for every position.
We’ll know racism isn’t a problem anymore when it never occurs to either side to raise the issue. Until then, yeah, I think we need to give things a PUSH.

A toon like this is just proof positive that some are shallow enough to believe what things look like rather than what they are.
Oh, wait. We don’t want to spend any time doing anything meaningful like getting to the bottom of things and finding the truth ourselves. Its so much easier to have it spoon-fed to us.
Its not a wonder 75% of incumbents get re-elected yet Congress has a 30% approval rating.
