My German Shepherd used to like taking raw potatoes out of the veg rack and chewing them. His predecessor used to like raw eggs.

He is probably like my dog. For my dog, he 3 rules for whatever he finds:
1) If it fits in his mouth and can be swallowed, it must be food.
2) if it doesn’t fit in his mouth but he can bite off chunks that he can swallow, it must be food.
3) If it fits in his mouth but can’t be swallowed, it must be a chew toy.
