Haven’t magazines been doing something like this for a long time: 1) Come up with a list of 10 best restaurants. 2) Mock-up magazine covers — suitable for framing — that announce the list. 3) Go to the restaurants and sell advertising against the editorial content. 4) Profit. Not that it’s right; but it’s not exactly wrong, is it? The survey results are still pretty genuine, aren’t they?

There is a magazine called Consumer’s Digest that sells “Best Buy” picks to the product manufacturers. They are NOT affiliated with Consumer’s Report, but most people think they are interchangeable.
