    It would have looked a lot better if the umbrella was on Baldo’s right side near his feet, and the sun was to his right.

    Not possible. Sun moves (well, earth moves) and the shadow wouldn’t be in the same place long enough. Unlikely Baldo tans all that fast ;)

    It would seem more likely that he got sunburned than tanned that way, and as said that mark would not happen.

    Possible if he was sloppy in application of SPF 100. Umbrella irrelevant.

    Anything over SPF 50 is basically wasted. Reapplying every half hour is better.
