Baldo is our first comic strip that features Latino characters and themes. Baldo lives with his parents and works at Auto Y Rod, Inc., selling car parts. Through his daily exploits in the world of girls, cars, and little sisters, readers will learn just how well they can identify with this teen. Writer Hector Cantú and artist Carlos Castellanos have given us a comic strip whose warmth and gentle humor will appeal to all.

One of those exceptions that are usually not spoken about till it comes up in conversation.

Once upon a time, not too long ago, several states (usually rural states) allowed kids to get their junior licenses at age 13.
Hawaii and Mississippi once allowed 15-year-olds to get their full adult licenses!
South Dakota still allows kids that are 14 years, 3 months old to get junior licenses.

Driving at a young age may not be a bad idea if monitored well. I’ve seen people who started driving at a late age and they aren’t as good at it, and are unsure of themselves, compared to people who have started young. Some of them have gone off the road crashing into trees on undulating country roads, not realizing their shocks weren’t up to handling the car.

My dad was friends with a guy who had a go cart track. I think the practice there as a kid was helpful in understanding the limits of tire adhesion, otherwise I would have been off the road too.

Come on Papi, just admit that you were doing something illegal and stupid and that you are not going to allow Baldo to make the same mistake.

HI and MS not that long ago, I was born 5 months before the cut off, but I would have had to get it before school started to get it at 15, and the insurance would have been THROUGH THE ROOF I waited to 16 and saved almost a $100 a month. And you can still get a provisional one at 15 if you can show need (like a job or driving younger siblings to school) but it’s limited and if you’re under 18 at all you have to prove you’re in school or have graduated.
.
Meanwhile, I remember my grandpa saying he had a job driving a delivery van when he 9, he had to use a block of wood to reach the pedal.

And the funny thing was, they were better drivers than most of the adults on the road.
