Baldo is our first comic strip that features Latino characters and themes. Baldo lives with his parents and works at Auto Y Rod, Inc., selling car parts. Through his daily exploits in the world of girls, cars, and little sisters, readers will learn just how well they can identify with this teen. Writer Hector Cantú and artist Carlos Castellanos have given us a comic strip whose warmth and gentle humor will appeal to all.

Someone, por favor, do the math of how many days left until Baldo’s oficialmente sixteen.

That’s funny. I always thought technology was a wheelchair.

In 59 days, I’ll be 53 years old.

So his birthday is 2nd of April? Good to know…
I do wonder though why his father would ask him how old he is. I mean, doesn’t he know?

@Furienna
I believe Sergio asked Baldo that question to prove the point that young people today couldn’t answer a simple question without having to use some sort of gadget to look up the answer.

From personal experience, I tutor chemistry and physics and showed one of my students that the answer to a problem was 2 divided by 0.1. She wanted to use her calculator to figure out the answer and said she couldn’t figure it out in her head. I’ve asked other random people if they could answer that simple math question and most say they can’t. In my opinion Sergio is correct and we often use technology as a crutch,

Depending on which state they live in, Baldo could be starting the process of getting his learner’s permit. Wait until he realizes that! Poor Sergio won’t get a moment’s peace!!

The drawback to having information so easily obtained that we shirk the necessity of remembering it ourselves. AS illustrated here today.

timeanddate.com gives me April 2, 1997 for his birth date according to this strip, so it’d be in 170 days.

At the store my total to pay was $5.32 and I give a $10.00 bill, she apolizage and ask me to wait for $1.00 bills, when I was waiting for my change I look for the 32 cents and I hand out to the cashier and I ask for a $5.00 bill, she look at me like I was crazy and get her calculator to figure out the change. They walk around us…

Someone once told the Readers’ Digest that she (I believe it was a she) was at a fast-food counter paying for her order when the power went out, taking down all those preprogrammed registers. Kid behind the counter, having to count her change, says, “Well, I guess we’ll have to do this the old-fashioned way,” and pulls a calculator out of the register.

I was pretty much this dumb when I was a kid. But at least he has technology to help him.
