Nobody expects full service in France? What has August got to do with that?

It’s called la fermiture annuelle. (Annual closing.) Lots of cafes simply shut down while the people who run them go on vacation.

If you lived here in Germany with me, for some reason it seems the Autobahn is full of autos from France at this time of year…. every year. And it is true… they drive like NUTS!!!

The Europeans look at Americans as crazy with the little time off we get from work. Many only get 2 weeks, which is too little for the amount of stress is associated with it..

Why don’t we just skip July and August all together most years?

The French name for August is août, pronounced “oo”. That shows how lazy they are.

My theory: children should go to school year-round, adults should gets summers off. Kids get bored – they have no credit cards or cars. On the other hand, WE know what to do with free time. Life is too short to work as hard as we do.

If “children should go to school year-round” and “adults should get summers off”, then who would teach the children? Other children?

The so-called entertainment industry is already indoctrinating the kids in abusive behavior and drug use. They’ll be happy to take up the slack.

Sadly, a lot of hospitals close, too. That’s a large part of why France lost a shockingly high number of residents during the 2003 heat wave in Europe –
Making matters worse was the fact that because so many people were on vacation, very few people were checking up on the elderly who were living by themselves; as a result, “elderly persons with some degree of independence” saw the highest number of fatalities.
Couple this with a general lack of air conditioning in single-family dwellings and general inexperience with what to do when the heat goes up, France lost roughly 14,100 people to largely avoidable causes.

Actually, you should say Europeans – it’s not just France that shuts down / or slows down. l’ve lived in Belgium and Hungary – same goes there.

…for a second I read “environmental movement is already indoctrinating” instead of “entertainment industry”…they’re about as bad for indoctrinating, though I don’t know about the drug use…
